Denture Process

Understanding the Denture Process

Step One: Consultation and Impressions

  • A dental team member will escort you back and take x-rays.
  • Your doctor will perform a comprehensive oral evaluation and develop a treatment plan for your needs.
  • Once your needs have been established, the dental team will discuss price ranges, materials, and tooth colors with you.
  • Your impressions will be taken to the dentist and the lab for approval.
  • After you visit the cashier for payment, you must wait until the lab processes your impressions.
  • The patient administration will release you.
  • The wax try-in is a step in which the doctor and patient preview the denture(s) before final processing. This allows the patient to confirm that the denture is aesthetically pleasing. It also lets the doctor verify the bite and make necessary changes or adjustments.

Step Two: Wax Try-Ins

  • Because each patient´s denture needs are unique, some dentures are more difficult to craft and require more time in the lab. Please note that even if your impressions were sent to the lab first, you may not be the first patient seen for a try-in.
  • The dental assistant will call your name and escort you to the dental room for your wax try-in. Here, you will see how the set-up denture looks. Adjustments will be made before the model is returned to the lab.
  • Wax try-in checks the bite and appearance of your new denture.
  • Your finished dentures will be made using this trial setup, so please be sure you are satisfied with them before you approve them.
  • When you leave the dental room, the dental assistants will give you time to return.

Step Three: Delivery of Dentures

  • When your denture is ready, the dental assistant will call your name and escort you to the dental room. There, your dentures will be fitted. If you choose, mini-implants can also be placed at that time too.
  • The dentist and his dental team will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit and provide information on caring for your new dentures and mouth.
